OLS is seeking a web developer and accessibility expert to support improvements to our website and documentation. We recognize that this work involves two distinct areas of expertise, and applicants may apply for one or both:
- Accessibility auditing and guidance: reviewing the website to assess accessibility and producing practical recommendations and guidelines.
- Web development: redesigning and improving pages related to the OLS training strategy and updating documentation for future maintenance.
Requirements:
- A good understanding of:
- OLS’s existing activities, values, income streams, including the three OLS pillars.
- the sometimes blurry line between open-oriented values and consideration for dignity, equity, privacy, and personal/local/cultural sovereignty.
- Working across mixed-resource or and mixed-culture contexts.
-
Tech stack: The website is a Jekyll-based site with custom python scripts for data processing, hosted on GitHub pages, and deployed / tested using GitHub Actions.
and/or
-
Web accessibility knowledge. We want to work with someone that treats accessibility as part of inclusion, dignity, equitable access, rather than looking for a purely compliance-driven audit. The WP related to this (WP1- see below) stems from an initial accessibility audit and the development of future accessibility guidelines, as part of OLS’s broader commitment to openness and inclusive participation.
We welcome applications from individuals specializing in either or both areas, as well as joint applications from collaborators or teams who together cover both skill sets.
We also welcome application for Spanish speakers.
